A Portfolio of Above-Ground Gold

Synterra has identified more than 15 legacy tailings deposits across South Africa and Zimbabwe. Five strategic dump projects are under active development assessment, representing in excess of 150 million tonnes of legacy tailings material.

Portfolio Overview

Above-Ground Gold Across Southern Africa

The Synterra portfolio spans two jurisdictions — South Africa and Zimbabwe — within a coherent Above-Ground Gold investment strategy. Both countries have produced substantial quantities of legacy tailings through decades of historic gold production, and both provide access to established processing infrastructure, technical expertise and regulatory frameworks for tailings retreatment.

South Africa

The Witwatersrand Legacy

South Africa produced more than a third of all the gold ever mined in human history. The Witwatersrand Basin — the world's largest known gold resource — supported a century of industrial-scale gold mining that at its peak employed hundreds of thousands of workers and sustained the country's economy.

That history left an enormous legacy. Surface tailings deposits created by South Africa's historic gold mines now represent an identifiable and in many cases commercially significant resource. Industrial-scale retreatment is already established in South Africa — most notably at Ergo Mining, which processes millions of tonnes of Witwatersrand tailings annually — demonstrating that the technology, the regulatory framework and the commercial model are viable.

Synterra's South Africa portfolio focuses upon legacy deposits where the combination of scale, grade, metallurgical characteristics and ownership clarity meets the threshold for development assessment. South African tailings are typically oxide in nature, which simplifies the metallurgical flowsheet and supports higher processing recoveries using established gravity, flotation and carbon-in-leach technologies.

The South African regulatory environment is relatively mature for tailings retreatment. Existing legislation provides a framework for tailings ownership, environmental permitting, water use and rehabilitation that Synterra's team navigates from a position of substantial experience.

Zimbabwe

A Complementary Opportunity

Zimbabwe has an extensive and commercially significant history of gold production. The country's greenstone belts — among the oldest geological formations on Earth — have been mined for gold for centuries, and formally recorded production extends through the colonial era into the present day.

This history created a substantial inventory of legacy tailings across Zimbabwe's historic gold-producing regions, including the Midlands, Mashonaland and Matabeleland provinces. Many of these deposits have received little formal assessment under modern resource reporting standards, creating an opportunity for well-structured acquisition and verification programmes.

Zimbabwe presents a more complex operating environment than South Africa in certain respects — regulatory frameworks for foreign investment, tailings ownership and environmental permitting are evolving. Synterra's Zimbabwe strategy is built around the legal clarity of ownership, the quality of the technical case and the commercial structure of each project before development capital is committed.

Synterra's team brings direct operational experience of Zimbabwean gold mining and is able to navigate the regulatory, legal and commercial environment from a position of informed familiarity.

How We Evaluate Projects

A Disciplined Four-Stage Process

Each potential Above-Ground Gold project is evaluated through a staged assessment process. Capital is committed incrementally — the next stage of expenditure is authorised only when the preceding stage produces results that support progression.

Stage 1

Preliminary Assessment

Desktop review of available geological and historical data. Physical site visit. Preliminary ownership investigation. Assessment of scale, location and preliminary technical indicators. Go/No-Go decision before any material expenditure is committed.

Stage 2

Resource Investigation

Physical surveying, drone mapping and systematic drilling programme. Sample collection and independent laboratory assaying. Preliminary resource estimate. Ownership and title investigation and confirmation. Metallurgical scoping study.

Stage 3

Technical Verification

Full independent resource report to NI 43-101, JORC or SAMREC standard as appropriate. Detailed metallurgical testwork programme including locked-cycle testing. Processing flowsheet selection. Preliminary economic assessment. Environmental baseline study.

Stage 4

Development & Finance

Feasibility study incorporating independently verified resource, metallurgical recovery, capital cost estimate, operating cost model and financial projections. Finance structure determination. Regulatory permitting. Offtake negotiation. Development finance arrangement.

Investment Criteria

Synterra applies consistent investment criteria across all projects: credible legal ownership or a clear path to ownership confirmation; minimum scale threshold to support commercial-scale processing; preliminary evidence of residual gold content above economic threshold; metallurgical characteristics consistent with achievable recovery; and a commercially viable operating cost model before development capital is committed.

Confidentiality & Disclosure

Synterra's specific project pipeline — individual deposit locations, resource estimates, ownership structures and development status — is maintained on a confidential basis. The competitive and commercial sensitivity of individual project positions in an active acquisition environment makes public disclosure inappropriate at this stage.

Qualified institutional investors, strategic partners and advisers may request access to the Synterra Data Room, which contains detailed project documentation, technical summaries, preliminary resource assessments and financial modelling subject to the execution of an appropriate non-disclosure agreement.
